Summertime is a great time to travel around the different parts of the world. Across the world, people gather together to celebrate everything from history, culture, and religion to art, dance, and film. Below is a list of some of the festivals that you might like, and do pack up and join the locals in the great celebration of life.

Burning Man (August 26 through September 2)
Calling all creatives and art enthusiasts for this annual event which brings together thousands in the middle of the Black Rock Desert. The week-long event takes place in a temporary community based on self-reliance - there are no vendors and event organizers encourage participants to leave the area without a trace. During the week, anything goes, as self-expression is explored and collaborative art is created.

Toronto International Film Festival (September 5 through 15)

BHUTAN - Thimphu Tsechu (Festival) 14 - 16Sep
One of the biggest festivals in the country is the Thimphu Tshechu. This festival is held in the capital city for three days beginning on 10th day of the 8th month of lunar calendar. This Tshechu is witnessed by thousands of people many of which travel from neighboring Dzongkhags (districts) to attend the festivities. The actual Tshechu is preceded by days and nights of prayer and rituals to invoke the gods. -

NEPAL - Mani Rimdu Festival (17-19Nov)

The festival "Mani Rimdu" seems to be celebrated for the first time in 1930. The Rongbukh Monastery in Tibet is the place from where this festival originated. This is the prayer ceremony where the monks put on masks representing divine personages and perform ritual dances. The spectators of devotion come from many villages to gain Sonam (merit) from the head Lama's blessing and making corn and grain contributions to the Monk's community. This period coincides with the cessation of work in the village at the end of harvesting. Mani-Rimdu is the only big social event that draws together large crowds from all villagers in the Khumbu region.  It is best to combine this with the Mount Everest Base Camp trek.

OKINAWA Diving

OKINAWA

Often compared to such world-renowned diving destinations as the Great Barrier Reef in Australia, the Bahamas, Palau, and Yap Island, Okinawa is a hidden paradise for divers, with an endless list of enchanting underwater beauties and wonders.

Located on the southernmost part of Japan, Okinawa's surrounding waters are fed by the warm Kuroshio Current running north from the Philippines, bringing a huge variety of marine life to the islands. The genial subtropical climate, with an average water temperature of 22 degrees Celsius in winter and 30 degrees Celsius in summer, facilities year-round diving. Species of reef fish, marine mammals, and sea turtles that inhabit Okinawan waters total more than 1,000 while reef-building corals exceed 200, making Okinawa one of the largest coral habitats in the world. It is where divers can anticipate fascinating encounters with such creatures as giant mantas, strikingly patterned butterfly fish, colour-splashed groupers and magnificent whale sharks.

Talk about the extent of diving site variety: In the Ryukyu Archipelago there are approximately 160 islands of varying size 48 of which are inhabited, stretching for 1,000 kilometres from east to west and 400 kilometres from north to south in between the Pacific Ocean and the East China Sea, and the variations of underwater landscape that exist there are as numerous as the islands themselves. The coral reefs flourishing around the Kerama islands for instance, are renowned for their beauty, which matches, if not surpasses, that of the Great Barrier Reef. " The most beautiful and diverse coral reefs that I have ever seen anywhere in the world were in Kerama," once said French marine biologist Jacques-Yves Cousteau, author of "The Silent World". in the early spring the waters off the Kerama Islands become a breeding ground for humpback whales, offering divers the rare opportunity to hear their songs. Yonaguni Island, with its mysterious underwater ruins site, featured in National Greographic and on the Disovery Channel, is also a known spot to encounter giant trevally, Napoleon fish, barracuda and giant cuttlefish as well as schools of over 100 hammerhead sharks that gather there to spawn during the winter, The World War II shipwreck USS Emmons is located on the seabed off the main island's s Motobu Peninsula. Numerous natural tunnels and caves, an expansive reef with a width of over 180 meters, an arch-filled landscape formed during the Ice Age... the list is endless.

So, what are you waiting for? It's your turn to discover the world's best kept secret with your own eyes, The opportunity awaits you down in Okinawa.

Hear What the Experts Say

David Megara (Oki Diving)
New Jersey, USA - 22 years in Okinawa
- Snorkeling is highly recommended here in addition to diving. What Okinawa offers is not only for its waters. There are opportunities available for various cultural experiences for visitors. I want them to get the most out of their stay here, especially if they take all the trouble to travel here.

David Richmond (Asian Dive Tours)
Washington, USA, 13 years in Okinawa
6 years as shop owner
PADI master instructor / boat captain
The Sunabe seawall offers diving for all levels of divers; it is an easy beach entry with depths ranging from five to 25 meters. you can expect to see vast fields of soft corals dotted with anemones and a countless variety of reef fish.
It;'s one of my hopes and wishes for the Western and English-speaking divers of the world to see just how beautiful Okinawa is, both above and below the ocean!

South Africa Travel

Dear all,

I am planning for a trip to South Africa for two weeks, and the departure date is
06Jun, 2014. Departure is by Emirates flight. Usually, the airlines offer discounts for early booking, so we are likely to make booking for the flights by end of February.

There is also a great chance that we will even do a 3 weeks trip for those who can afford the time and money.. South Africa is an expensive place for travel, especially so if you stay at the lodges located within the Game Parks.

Please find below the write up about South Africa from the Lonely Planet's website .

SOUTH AFRICA

Every country in the world displays some diversity, but South Africa, stretching from the hippos in the Limpopo River to the penguins waddling on the Cape, takes some beating. It befits its position at the southern end of the world’s most epic continent, with more types of terrain than photographers can shake their zoom lens at. There’s the deserted Kalahari, Namakwa’s springtime symphony of wildflowers, iconic Table Mountain and Cape Point, Kruger National Park’s wildlife-stalked savannah (scene of the famous lion-buffalo-crocodile battle watched more than 40 million times on YouTube) and, running through the east of the country and into Lesotho, the Drakensberg. KwaZulu-Natal’s iSimangaliso Wetland Park alone has five distinct ecosystems, attracting both zebras and dolphins.
If you’re interested in another kind of wildlife, hit the nightclubs on Cape Town’s jumping Long St or sample African homebrew in a township shebeen (unlicensed bar). When it’s time to reflect on it all, do it over seafood on the Garden Route, curry in Durban’s Indian Area, a sizzling Cape Malay dish, or a braai (barbecue) in the wilderness – accompanied by a bottle of pinotage produced by the oldest wine industry outside Europe.
Of course, it's impossible for travellers to South Africa to remain oblivious to the fact that, despite the rise of ‘black diamonds’ (middle-class black folk), racial inequality persists here. Black and coloured townships face problems such as a horrific HIV/AIDS rate and xenophobic tensions caused by economic refugees from nearby countries.
Nonetheless, South Africans are some of the most upbeat, welcoming and humorous folk you’ll encounter anywhere, from farmers in the rural north who tell you to drive safely on those dirt roads, to Khayelitsha kids who wish you molo (‘good morning’ in Xhosa).

Review of Aloft Hotel Kuala Lumpur

I was away in Kuala Lumpur (KL) over the Hari Raya and our Singapore National Day holidays for the long weekend. We had a fair in KL, and we stayed at this four star property  - Aloft Hotel, which is located right opposite the KL Sentral Train Station. It is only 28 minutes ride to the Airport from here.

The three of us, all ladies, were very happy to stay here. It is a modern, chic hotel, right in the heart of Kuala Lumpur. To go to Bukit Bintang where you find the cafes, restaurants and pubs, it was a ride on the mono rail for about 6 stations. The name of the station is Bukit Bintang itself.

I was very glad that I had the opportunity to meet up two of my contacts there who bought me tea  and lunch.

Take a look at the pictures below featuring the Aloft Hotel .

Excellent Location of Aloft Hotel (Opp KL Sentral Train Station)
It is only about 10 min drive to the Mid Valley Mega Mall. This is where you could find lots of food.

20 min ride to Bukit Bintang

30 min ride to Puchong, the new and upcoming area with eateries, offices. No public transport.

10 min drive to Publica Mall, where you find food, supermarket, and shops

10 min drive to Mont Kiara, and the residential condo - Tijani 2.

10 min drive to Damansara Heights. We have our Travel Preview, here every Sunday at 2 pm.

It had been almost 8 years since I last came to KL. And this time, we booked the coach, and paid a premium for the tickets - SINKUL ($36), and return KULSIN (Rm100)

This is due to the public holidays weekend. Otherwise, the usual KULSIN ticket costs about RM50.

Food -
Love the food here in Malaysia.

More Pictures of the food to come along.

My contact brought me to S.Wine Cafe at Publica Mall. The food is really delicious.

And on the Sunday morning, I managed to join the locals for a hike up to Bukit Puchong. The taxi driver was not familiar with the way, and took me on a longer ride, so in the end, I was late. So, the group had started with their hikes up the hill. Fortunately, the plan was to do 2 loops, so I simply waited for them at the beginning of the Trail Head.

This is considered an easy or moderate hike, so most of the people would be able to manage quite easily.

More pictures to come ..

COACH to MALAYSIA -
